Meeting That Made Raila Skip National Prayer Breakfast

ODM leader Raila Odinga was conspicuously missing during the national prayer breakfast that was held on Thursday at the Safari Park Hotel.

The former prime minister jetted out of the country on Wednesday evening destined for Addis Ababa in Ethiopia to attend an infrastructure conference.

Raila who is the Africa Union Envoy for Infrastructure took to his Facebook page to inform the public of his whereabouts.

“Departing for Addis Ababa to attend a conference on the infrastructure meant to facilitate the integration of the Belt and Road Initiative together with the development strategies of African countries,” the ODM party leader disclosed on Wednesday.

Raila also went ahead to assure the continent on the infrastructural progress that the AU is pushing for specifying on the investments on The Grand Inga Dam in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Africa’s progress and prosperity, including trade, is deeply tied to our infrastructure development and connectivity. The infrastructure component that will see this Continent take off is that of Energy: That is what will drive high-speed rails, broadband connectivity and airlines.

"Currently, we have the Inga Dam, which has long been identified to have the capacity to power the Continent if its 110 MW capacity is fully developed. The Inga cries for this massive investment,” Raila wrote on another post.

This was the 17th annual National Prayer Breakfast led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and attended by political and religious leaders from all over the country.

Among the foreign dignitaries in attendance were South Sudanese president Salva Kiir and Lord Michael Hastings who was the keynote speaker.

This year's event that was dubbed “A New Dawn” saw Uhuru give one of his shortest speeches urging leaders to practice what they preach.

Despite his absence, Raila’s name was the highlight of DP William Ruto’s speech as he made fun to Lord Hastings.

Ruto noted that with the UK searching for a Prime Minister to replace Teresa May who is quitting, Kenya was willing to submit Raila’s CV for consideration.
