Embu Lawmaker Who Lives in Ksh800 Servant Quarter

In a country where politicians are known for their lavish lifestyles and extravagance, a Member of the County Assembly from Embu has shocked many with her simplicity.

Reports indicate that nominated MCA Terry Mbuchi lives in Karumuro Health Centre hospital quarters, in a one-bedroomed house, where she pays Ksh800 rent per month.

Despite constant appeals from her colleagues at the assembly to vacate the low-grade house and move to a better accommodation befitting a mheshimiwa, Mbuchi has remained adamant that she is comfortable and doesn't see the need to move.

“ Why would one question where I live? It is my choice to stay where I want even if I was given the mortgage,” she retorted.

The Jubilee- nominated MCA claims that the push by some of her colleagues to move houses was mere political witch hunt keen at tainting her image.

In 2018, the Embu Assembly Infrastructure and Housing Committee discussed the effects of Mbuchi’s continued stay at the hospital’s servants quarters claiming that it was unfortunate and demeaning for the MCA to continue living there.

“MCAs are awarded a good mortgage to build their own houses. Why should an MCA continue to reside in a hospital facility paying only Ksh800? The workers in the hospital may feel they are being supervised,” Health Committee chairperson and Ruguru Ngandori MCA Muturi Mwombo stated.

However, according to one of the hospital’s staff, they have no issue with the MCA living in their quarters noting,  “ There is no housing crisis in the facility and no medics has failed to get a house because the MCA has rented here”.

The hospital staff also revealed that three police officers have also rented the same quarters following an agreement with the local community.

Before joining politics in 2017, the nominated MCA was living at the hospital’s staff quarters while working at Karurumo Vocational Training Centre as an instructor.
