Matiang'i's PS Clarifies Omitting of Maraga's Name From VIP List

Interior Cabinet Fred Matiang'i's Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has finally come clean after Chief Justice David Maraga's was conspicuously left out of the in list of VIP to be given right of way on Kenyan roads.

On Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai released a list that had excluded the CJ, the Attorney General and the Senate's Majority Leader.

According to a report by The Standard, Kibicho refuted claims that he had a hand in the omissions after reports emerged online that he was directly linked.

He further argued that it was the IG who was answerable to that claim especially since he was the one who released the list.

“I saw the list just like you and I don’t know why people drop my name in everything,” retorted Kibicho.

The protest prompted Mutyambai to release an updated list that included Maraga, the AG and the Senate Majority Leader alongside Cabinet Secretary for Finance and principal secretaries of defence, finance and foreign affairs.

The list consisted of a high-profile elite group of individuals allowed to flout regular traffic regulations.

Accompanying the list, Mutyambai warned all those who were not on the list that their drivers would be arrested and charged if caught in violation of traffic regulations.

"Any government vehicle found violating traffic regulations especially those overlapping, the drivers shall be arrested and charged in accordance with the law," read the Statement in part.

IG Mutyambai also made it clear that vehicles not on the list provided would only be allowed clearance privileges after being granted authority by officers in charge of traffic in the respective regions.
