Explosions and Fire at Malik Heights in Nairobi

Explosions and a huge fire broke out on Monday night at Malik Heights along Ngong road in Nairobi.

According to reports, the explosions started at around 8pm but the cause is still unknown.

No fatalities have been reported so far. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after the fire broke out and were trying to put it out.

Police officers were deployed to the building to keep members of the public that were already gathering away from getting too close to the fire scene.

The fire fighters reported difficulties in accessing Malik Heights since the building is closely nit with others including a residential property in the back.

Police redirected all traffic from Ngong road while one bystander was taken to Nairobi Hospital for treatment after inhaling the toxic smoke from the building.

The nine-storey building houses motor vehicle bazaars, offices, restaurants among other commercial premises.

Nairobi County Government revealed that they had difficulty in accessing the scene of fire after huge traffic started building up.

A video showed some vehicles getting removed from the building as early as 9pm.
