6-Month-Old Baby Dies Mysteriously During Eid Ul Fitr Shopping

A six-month-old baby who had been carried on his mother's back on Monday died in unclear circumstances.

The mother had gone shopping for the Eid Ul Fitr celebrations when the baby passed on.

Garissa OCPD Aron Moriasse stated that the police were investigating the circumstances under which the child died, The Standard reports.

"There was no commotion that could have prompted to the death, even if many people are shopping for Eid," Moriasses told The Standard.

Hundreds of muslims were shopping in Garissa town for the Eid celebrations, which mark the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.

On Monday, the government of Kenya, through Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i, declared Wednesday, June 5, 2019, a public holiday to mark the end of Ramadhan.

Kenyans are expected to join their Muslim brothers and sisters to mark their special day known as Eid-ul-Fitr following a gazette notice dated Monday, June 3, 2019. 

Eid-ul-Fitr is marked each year after the fasting, praying and self-reflection during the Holy month of Ramadhan.
