Update: The woman has been arrested. This is according to Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Mbogo Mathioya.
A woman in Maai Mahiu, Naivasha resorted to a cruel act of sewing up the mouth of her class five son on Saturday, following poor performances by the boy in school.
The incident shocked residents of the area as they could not believe that a mother was capable of doing such a heinous act to her own son.
According to one area resident, the woman who is a well-known hairdresser was so disappointed and pained by her son's falling school grades.
She then went on to punish the pupil by stitching his mouth using a needle before fellow villagers intervened, forcing her to flee for her life.
"I visited the pupil in school on Monday and established that he was actually assaulted by the mother," said the resident.
While confirming the incident, Naivasha Sub-County Assistant County Commissioner Julius Nyaga stated that the residents had reported the matter to him.
He further termed the incident as barbaric and that the police are already on the manhunt for the fleeing suspect.
"Police are tracking down the mother after the school’s administration reported the incident," Nyaga affirmed.
The administrator also warned any parent against assaulting their children, stating that stern action will be taken against such offenders.
He recommended parents who face such incidences to seek professional counseling instead of acting in anger and eventually hurting their children.
