JKL show host, Jeff Koinange was on Wednesday evening placed between a rock and a hard place following an interview with Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
The Governor seemed to have fixed his mind on dealing with a recent public spat between him and the Nairobi Women Representative Esther Muthoni Passaris.
The interview got so heated up when the governor kept bringing up the women representative's name. On his part, Jeff tried to use a few tactics to deviate his attention.
At one point, the governor is heard saying "I will not leave you to control this show, we will never do this show".
Here are some of the ways Jeff tried to control his interviewee;
1.) He constantly left his seat and went next to Sonko.
While cameras are usually strategically put before any production to allow for a smooth show, Jeff did not seem worried about this.
He constantly stood up and sat next to the governor while holding his shoulder to try and make him understand that he needed to stop talking about the Nairobi Women Representative.
However, it did not seem to work.
2.) Jeff spoke in Swahili dialect on a couple of occasions
The JKL show host spoke in Swahili on several occasions, probably, trying to change the direction of the conversation to minimise accusations against Passaris in her absence.
"Tuwachane na huyu mama, tuwachane na yeye (Let's leave this woman alone)," he is heard saying in one instance.
"Wacha tuongee hivi, tutarudi huko (Lets first discuss this, we will revisit that later)," he is heard saying in another instance.
3.) Diverted Sonko's attention by trying to talk about his developments
On several occasions, Jeff tried to talk the governor into speaking about his ongoing projects.
"But let me ask you this governor, you mentioned Dandora a few minutes ago..." Jeff tried to ask but Sonko intervened stating, "I will not allow you to go to Dandora."
However, Jeff got a bit lucky when he captured his attention noting that Sonko was able to construct the Dandora stadium but failed to construct the city stadium.
"They are there, they started from last week Monday, I think you are behind the news," Sonko cited.
4.) Jeff handed Sonko the fire extinguisher
Normally, Jeff uses his fire extinguisher when his interviews get heated up.
However, this time he gave the onus to the governor in order to distract him from talking about the Women Representative inviting him to a room at the Intercontinental hotel.
"This is too hot, governor puliza," Jeff told him.
5.) The show went to a long commercial break
Moments before the show went on a break, the governor's microphone was switched off and the audience could hardly hear what he was saying.
The JKL show host took the audience to a commercial break, asking them to anticipate more from the governor.
The commercial break, however, took 10 minutes, longer than it usually does with the station running a couple of advertisements and unending promos.
