West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo went from the county boss very few Kenyans knew about to one of the most popular county bosses.
He first became famous for being the only governor whose deputy resides in the US, sparking outrage but his comical nature seems to have warmed him up to people's hearts.
It all started when he referred to one of his critics as kijana mfupi round, eliciting reactions even from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ever since, the media has been keen to follow the governor's speeches and pick out the most hilarious of his speeches.
Speaking about insecurity in his county, he urged neighbouring communities to make peace with each other because they were permanent neighbours. Hakuna mahali mtaenda.Tuko na nyinyi bumper to bumper mpaka yesu arudi (You are not going anywhere. We are together bumper to bumper until the day Jesus comes back).
In another address about the security response to the insecurity in his backyard, he claimed that police officers were using excessive force to deal with criminals.
"Those extrajudicial killings must stop and I'm telling President, is he is listening to me, ongea na watoto wako (talk with your children)."
The crime rate in the area seems to have taken the attention of the governor because during another speech where he was encouraging coexistence in West Pokot, he stated, "Haijalishi wewe ni kabila gani especially West Pokot hapa, nataka mlambane na mpendane na jirani yako (It doesn't matter which tribe you come from here in West Pokot, I want you people to lick each others' wounds and love your neighbours)."
During the launch of a four-day Medical Safari by first lady Magaret Kenyatta, Governor Lonyangapuo boasted about his fluency in English by reading a section of his speech with flair and composure of an English man.
