Kenyans Grill City Restaurant for Firing Mourning Employee

Kenyans on the internet were all out to defend a man who was allegedly fired after he went to check on his wife who was at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital.

Amaica Restaurant which is located off Peponi road was accused of firing Maxwell Mwangi in May 2019.

Mwangi narrated on how he received a phone call that his wife had gone into labour while he was at work and needed to be rushed to hospital.

Mwangi's wife was able to get a taxi and was taken to the Pumwani maternity hospital where she was admitted and scheduled for emergency surgery.

Mwangi who was supposed to report to work at 7 am called his boss asking for permission to be with his wife but the request was denied.

At around 1.30 pm he received a call that his wife was out of the theater but the baby did not survive, but again his boss one Pamela Muyesi turned down his request to go see his wife in hospital.

His immediate supervisor sympathised with him and gave him the leave on condition he put his request in writing.

Mwangi returned to work on Monday, May 6 only for his employer to ask him to write a report on how the baby died explaining how he was given permission to be off from work.

The following day, Muyeshi asked Mwangi to provide her with the burial permit, death certificate, and other documents to prove that the death actually occurred.

In a quick succession of events, Mwangi received his marching orders from the establishment's manager.

When he went public with his story the management prepared a statement that stated that they had allowed Mwangi a compassionate leave from May 3 to May 6 and he opted not to return to the place.

Netizens did not buy a word from the statement as they bashed the establishment for forcing a father to return to work just three days after the death of there baby.

Others declared that they would never visit the establishment ever again despite having been dedicated customers before.
