Three people died in a grisly road accident along the Kitui-Machakos highway on Saturday morning.
Ten other passengers were rushed to Machakos level 5 referral hospital with serious multiple injuries.
The injured passengers were administered first-aid treatment at Mwala level 4 hospital.
The accident involved a matatu trading under Kinathi Sacco.
Ronald Kirui, Mwala sub-county police commander, confirmed the incident disclosing that the accident occurred at Ghetto area just a few kilometers from Wamunyu shopping center.
The accident occurred when the tyre of the matatu burst while heading to Kitui from Machakos.
“The driver lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst and the vehicle veered off the road and overturned, occasioning injuries, three of them fatal,” Kirui was quoted by The Standard.
The number of passengers on board the matatu at the time of the accident was not immediately established.
The bodies of the three deceased were moved to Machakos level 5 hospital mortuary.
