Waititu Senior Employees Give Him 1 Condition Before Returning to Work

Kiambu County suffered a huge blow over the weekend after six senior county officials, who have since been reinstated, resigned.

The employees, who had quit following a fallout over the payment of suppliers in the county, have resumed work under several conditions spelled out between them and Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu.

“It is true we have all been reinstated on condition that the Finance Department will be let to work freely without interference and will not be dictated upon,” Faith Harrison, the County's Chief Finance officer told The Standard.

The Chief Finance Officer claimed that the governor had a preferred list of companies that he wanted paid first, which the officers resisted.

She added that suppliers who had done business with the Kiambu government in 2014, 2015 and 2016 had not yet been paid.

“The President recently said all contractors and suppliers with pending bills be paid, but the governor wants to hear none of it.

"He only wants companies he prefers paid first, which we found inappropriate," she had stated.

Ms Harrison had made the decision a day after she was demoted to the trade and cooperatives docket.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating the governor, some of the county officials, as well as his relatives for corruption claims.

In the county reshuffle, Waititu, through the county secretary Martin Njogu, announced that Wilson Nyanjui would take over as the Chief Finance Officer.

He also moved Mburu Kang’ethe from the roads docket to the trade and cooperatives and replaced him with former senatorial aspirant Juliet Kimemia.
