CRB Listing Drives Man to Commit Suicide

A youth aged 25 years resorted to ending his own life after fearing that he was listed by the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

According to his neighbours, Samuel Ng’ari who hails from Murang'a county, had complained about defaulting on a ksh 3,000 loan he had acquired through a mobile application before his body was found dangling from a rope in his room.

Daily Nation reported that Ng'ari had accompanied his parents to the farm that day before he excused himself and left early and locked himself in his room.

It was his mother who discovered his body after he spotted a rope hanging in his room which is next to the kitchen and the door was locked from outside. They suspected he gained entrance through the window.

“When we came from the farm, my wife went to the kitchen to prepare lunch and that’s when she saw a rope in the next room where my son sleeps and suspected something was wrong,” narrated his father Robinson Kimani.

“He had been complaining that he had defaulted on a loan from a popular mobile phone lending app and had claimed that his name had been forwarded to the credit reference bureau,” added a neighbour.

Confirming the incident, Kandara OCPD Paul Wambugu urged the youth to always seek help explaining that suicide was not the only option.

“It is the high time that people know that life is sacred. You don’t have to take your life because of an issue. Always speak it out and seek assistance and you may find that you are better off than other people; all that matters is for you to manage your problems,” he suggested.

This comes roughly one week after Senate's Majority Kipchumba Murkomen raised concerns over the increased cases of suicides and homicides in the country.

“A time has come that we in parliament must come up with legal structures and budgeting exclusively to deal with the social sector because we are losing our children, brothers and sisters at a very high rate," he suggested.
