Fistfight Erupts as Anti-Ruto Supporters Clash With MCAs

A section of Nyeri town residents allied to Kieleweke team, on Thursday, clashed with pro-DP William Ruto leaders and their supporters during a function in the county.

There has been a row between Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, who is against the DP, and a section of the county's MCAs who accused him of neglecting the region.

The MCAs have vowed to support the DP's presidential ambitions while Ngunjiri maintains that Ruto should not be assured of the region's votes.

Their dispute culminated into a fistfight during the launch of Nyeri Main Transport Terminus at Asian Quarters where Ngunjiri's supporters shouted down Rware MCA Paul Kanyari, who was giving an address at the time.

According to Daily Nation, one of the supporters even boldly attempted to snatch the microphone from the MCA before police officers stopped him.

So serious was the chaos that they threatened to bring the meeting to a standstill as the supporters of the warring parties hurled insults at each other.

In their previous interviews, Kanyari and Gatitu Muruguru MCA Symon Muturi argued that Ngunjiri's constant attacks to the DP cost the region development since they were getting a raw deal.

In his defence, the MP brushed off the claims terming them as deceitful since the region had received enough development funding.

"My constituency's needs cannot be similar to other regions because it already has better infrastructure. We have several roads being upgraded to bitumen standards while others are being rehabilitated," he stated.
