Tragedy as Probox Rolls During Highspeed Police Chase

Tragedy struck one family after their preferred means of transport came to haunt them.

The family from Kiromwok, Bomet East Sub County, had gone to pick a woman who had been discharged from Longisa County Referral Hospital where she had undergone a surgery in the stomach.

Nairobi News reported that the recovering woman boarded the Toyota Probox with the help of three of her relatives; two men and a woman.

Soon after the vehicle left the stage, police officers followed it closely marking the beginning of a grueling 14km high-speed chase.

Authorities suspected the vehicle was operating as a public service vehicle on the Mulot-Longisa-Bomet highway.

The driver of the Probox tried to escape and headed towards Bomet town. On reaching Kyogong area, he turned from the main highway and took the Masare route.

Barely four kilometers into the rough road, the Probox hit a bump, rolled over landing on its side.

Witnesses told reporters that the driver of the police car that was close behind when the Probox rolled over, stopped briefly at the scene of the accident before driving off, leaving the occupants trapped inside.

The publication also reported that members of the public rushed to the scene and rescued them after which the Probox driver fled on foot.

The police vehicle is said to be attached to the Kapkomolwo Police Station in Longisa Ward.
