German Accused of Beating Kenyan Employees Flees the Country

47-year-old German national Hinteregger Jurgenaccused of racial and physical abuse to his employees at the Thiba dam in Kirinyaga, has fled the country.

Police confirmed on Monday that the German, who had been arrested on Saturday, had flown out of the country.

The company that Jurgen worked for, Stragbag international, also confirmed that the said individual had left Kenya.

Police at the Kirinyaga police station, who were investigating the incident, were left confused after they got the reports about Jurgen's disappearance.

He was under investigation for assault and racism.

The German was arrested and grilled on Saturday after six people accused him of verbal and physical abuse of Kenyan workers at the Thiba Dam construction site.

The labourers, through their union representative David Ndanya, claimed that the German supervisor often referred to them as “bushmen and idiots” and went as far as physically abusing some of them.

Citizen Digital reported that Kennedy Maina, a technician in the company, is reported to have narrowly escaped death after Yugen almost killed him while he was walking out of a container where tools are kept.

Gichugu OCPD Anthony Mbogo told reporters that they had launched investigations into the complaints, adding that stern action would be taken against the supervisor, if found culpable.

Reports also revealed that the accused had been deported by the Malawian Government over racial discrimination, charges similar to those cited by the Kirinyaga workers.
