DCI Unearths Ingenious Method Thugs Use to Siphon Fuel

DCI arrested two men who were found siphoning fuel in Kathangaita area in Machakos county while others escaped.

The detectives revealed that the suspects had erected an iron sheet fence around a 50 by 50 piece of land over the government pipeline.

The criminals, who thought were smart enough, then dug a hole in order to access the pipe which they then drilled for fuel.

Detectives narrated on Twitter that when they bust the men in the process of siphoning fuel, they were able to arrest the two but the others escaped through an underground tunnel.

DCI confirmed that they received a tip-off on the suspicious activities happening in the fenced piece of land.

Upon searching the area, the officers also seized a Mitsubishi canter with a tank branded ‘Clean Water’ which was being loaded with fuel.

Police launched a manhunt for the suspects who slipped away.

The suspects were detained as they waited to be arraigned in court.

This comes at a time when the Kenya Pipeline Corporation is under fire to compensate oil marketers over Ksh60 million for the loss of over 500,000 litres of fuel through spillage at Kiboko, Makueni County.

This was after a leakage on the Ksh 51billion new pipeline seeped into the Kiboko springs, polluting this and many other water sources within the area.
