Billionaire Who Lost Ksh750M Home in Single Bet

They say that amassing wealth is a tedious process dotted with immense sweat but a person can lose it all in a flash just like billionaire Adnan Khashoggi did.

Khashoggi, who died in 2017, was a respected Saudi Arabian billionaire behind Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club and a house in Laikipia which he acquired for roughly Ksh750 million.

The house, called Ol Pejeta Ranch, had four bedrooms that the billionaire, who was reportedly close to former President Daniel Moi, used to host lavish parties for visiting heads of state, royal family members and other billionaires.

According to a Business Daily report, Khashoggi reportedly lost the ownership of the palatial home to Lonrho Hotels’ Tiny Rowland during a poker game competition.

Rowland later disposed off the property to a UK charity known as Flora and Fauna International which later handed the house's management to a Kenyan trust as a conservancy for posterity.

The house reportedly contains bedrooms that have walk-in dressing rooms, two lounges, dining room, living room, two private swimming pools and large balconies.

It was Khashoggi who opened up Laikipia to other fellow billionaires who, after seeing that his investment launched the place as a pristine wildlife-rich hinterland, started buying ranches and putting up exclusive high-end resorts.

This development then elevated the area into a rich man's playground.

The billionaire, whose worth was once valued at Ksh400 Billion, reportedly enjoy friendship with Moi that he would fly directly into Kenya in a private jet to his Laikipia Ranch forcing customs officials to drive there from Nairobi.

Khashoggi passed on in June 2017 aged 81 while undergoing treatment for Parkinson’s disease.
