Starehe MP Charles Njagua alias Jaguar, on Wednesday, was arrested over his remarks on foreigners working in Kenya that were termed as xenophobic.
Moments after the first-time MP was taken into custody, his official Twitter account put out a statement alleging that his sentiments had been misinterpreted.
"My recent sentiments over the invading of our market by foreigners have been greatly misinterpreted.
"I mean peace for the country and businesses should go on uninterrupted and all foreigners are welcome to our country," he tweeted.
His comment was in direct contradiction of his earlier remarks where he threatened to round up all foreign traders operating in Nairobi and march them to the airport for deportation.
"I am giving the government 24 hours to deport them, if not, we will march into their business premises, we shall remove them, we shall beat them and take them to the airport. Matiang'i and the Department of Immigration's job will be to fly them back to their home countries." concluded the MP.
The contrast of his statements had the MP labelled Kigeugeu after his 2011 track of the same name which means 'hypocrite'.
"Go back to singing. Problem of mixing entertainment with serious business and leadership," one user wrote.
Another noted, "Think carefully before action or saying. Acha kuwa kigeugeu (stop being a hypocrite)."
Some simply replied with the phrase kigeugeu as others dedicated the song to the singer turned politician.
