Girl Who Used to Walk 10Km to See Dead Mother's Body Finally Gets Funding

Well wishers have come to the rescue of a girl who had been walking 10Km almost daily for nine months, to see her dead mother's body at the Kitengela Sub county Hospital mortuary.

The 20-year-old Maurine Mukulu lost her mother nine months ago but was unable to befit her with a decent send off due to the lack of funds.

Mukulu was unable to pay Ksh 20,000 to the Kitengela Sub county Hospital mortuary.

“I walked to the morgue every single day hoping that a Good Samaritan would help me bury my mum.

"I also wanted to know that she is well-taken care of there. I just had to make sure that her body is not thrown all over the place," she told a local publication.

NTV journalist Dann Mwangi highlighted the girl's plight on Twitter after which well-wishers came to her aid.

"Orphan gal walks 10km daily to Kitengela Sub County Hospital morgue to view her late mother's body, whose release she is unable to pay for; she says she has done this for 9 months, needs Ksh. 20,000 to bury her mother at a public cemetery," he had posted.

On June 25, 2019, Mwangi disclosed that the girl had received help from well-wishers who had helped her raise Ksh 21,000.

"Ksh. 21,000 has been raised and will be sent to her or to the hospital. There is no Pay Bill number.

"More details on how a sustainable way forward can be offered are being gathered, and shall be communicated," Mwangi highlighted.

The 20-year-old is now planning for her mother's burial at a public cemetery in Kajiado.
