Ex-Prison Cop Who Killed KU Student Jailed

Former prison warden, Sergent Dismus Gitenge Motongwa was on Monday found guilty of killing 22-year-old KU student Maureen Wambui Gachagua on June 15, 2018.

The former warden, who was attached to Nairobi West Prison, was served three and a half year sentence without any option of fine.

Reports by Citizen Digital state that Motongwa, who was convicted on June 24 by high court magistrate Elekta Riany, was found guilty of dangerous driving by speeding that resulted in hitting the deceased.

The court claimed that the accused defense was full of lies confirming that the number plate had blood that belonged to the deceased.

Motongwa reported the incident at Lang’ata Police Station where he asked for an abstract on grounds that he had hit an animal.

“No one can avoid an accident, but the way one handles the case after is what matters,” noted the court.

Previous reports state that the deceased was leaving a party near Next-Gen Mall with her boyfriend when she was hit by a speeding red car.

“As they were crossing the road, my sister Maurine was hit by a vehicle and it sped off. When I went to the scene and as I was looking around I saw her leg,” lamented the deceased’s brother, Nahashon Wahome.

While at the reception of Mariakani hospital, a woman narrated how the body of a woman had been dumped around that area by an unknown person.

Her body was found with her face facing downwards near Car Max dealers in South C. Her right leg was also missing and the whole body was badly injured.

Beside the body was a number plate of the car KCN 285B which disappeared as soon as an early crowd got to the scene.

The accused is said to have driven three kilometers with her body on the roof of his car before dumping it in South C Estate, Nairobi.
