Armed Thugs Open Fire Inside City Church, Steal Millions

Humble elderly believers in a Kisumu church were on Monday morning treated to heavy gunfire after thugs stormed their church and made away with Ksh1.6 million.

The elderly people had queued at the PAG church in Kiboswa area where they were receiving the money before the thugs broke in.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu West Sub-county police boss Eddy Kangi intimated that the thugs shot in the air to disperse the congregants before fleeing on motorbikes.

Administration Police officers, who were guarding a nearby satellite mast, dashed to the church after hearing the gunfire but did not catch the thugs.

Kisumu County Director of Social Services Dennis Mudhune, according to Citizen Digital, confirmed that at times, they handed out money in cash to be distributed to the elderly.

Police, therefore, faulted the distributors for not alerting them so that they could offer protection during the exercise.

Three officers from the department of social services were subsequently held by police to assist in the investigations.

A manhunt was launched to identify and catch the thugs.

In July 2018, armed thugs stormed a church in Nyeri town and made away with Ksh1 million.

The robbers also arrived on motorcycles at African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) and shot in the air before demanding the money.
