The government has released Ksh3.51 billion to support vulnerable groups under the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme for the month of May.

The funds aim to ensure financial relief for 1,759,656 beneficiaries across the country.

In an official statement dated June 7, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, through Principal Secretary Joseph Motari, said the funds are much needed to assist select vulnerable Kenyans in the country.

''The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, has released Ksh3,519,312,000 for payment to 1,759,656 beneficiaries enrolled in the Inua Jamii Program,'' the statement read in part.

The beneficiaries of the funds include older persons, orphans, vulnerable children, and individuals living with severe disabilities.

According to Motari, the payments began on Friday, June 6, with each beneficiary set to receive Ksh2,000 covering the month of May.

Motari underscored the Ministry's commitment to continuing support for the vulnerable in the country.

He described the programme as the backbone of the country’s protection strategy and its efforts to alleviate poverty and promote the well-being of the beneficiaries.

"It aims to alleviate poverty and promote the well-being of society's most vulnerable members, including older persons aged 70 and above, orphans and vulnerable children, and persons living with severe disability," the statement continued.

A beneficiary of the programme can access the funds through the E-citizen platform or by dialling *222#. After this, one can withdraw the funds from an M-PESA agent or transfer them to their M-PESA wallets.

They have also been advised to report any issues or challenges to the nearest social protection offices.

This latest disbursement follows a similar one of Ksh3.5 billion that was allocated in April 2025 for the same programme.

Since its inception, Inua Jamii has played a crucial role in reducing the financial strain on vulnerable groups, ensuring that older citizens and disadvantaged families receive regular support.
