The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a 14-hour traffic disruption along the Southern Bypass.
In a notice, the authority revealed that the road would be closed between Ole Sereni Interchange and Kikuyu Town from midnight on Saturday, October 25, to Sunday, October 26, at 2pm.
The closure is set to allow for the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon scheduled for Sunday morning.
"KeNHA wishes to notify the public on the temporary closure of Nairobi Southern Bypass from Ole Sereni Interchange to Kikuyu Town from Saturday, 25th October, 2025, at midnight to Sunday, 26th October, 2025, at 2.00 pm," the notice read in part.
"This is to allow for the 2025 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon. Motorists are advised to use Mombasa Road (A8) from the Ole Sereni Interchange, through Uhuru Highway, and vice versa."
As such, all road users are therefore advised to follow the traffic signs and guidance as directed by traffic marshals and the police.
However, vehicles heading from Kikuyu to Dagoretti will be able to use the Southern Bypass, as well as those heading from Karen to Kikuyu through Dagoretti Road.
From 12am to 12.10pm, vehicles from Karen Shopping Centre heading to Kikuyu via Southern Bypass can also use the Dagoretti Road.
Those heading from the same centre for Mombasa Road can access the Southern Bypass through Lang'ata Road. From Lang'ata Road (Galleria Mall) to Kikuyu via Southern Bypass, they will be diverted to use Dagoretti Road via Langata Road.
From ICD to Kikuyu via Southern Bypass, the vehicles will use Waiyaki Way through Mombasa Road and Uhuru Highway.
Lastly, vehicles heading from Likoni Road to Mombasa Road through the Southern Bypass will be rerouted to use Enterprise Road between those times.
Between 12am to 1.30pm on Sunday, those heading from Kikuyu to Mombasa Road via the Southern Bypass will use Waiyaki Way.
From Dagoretti to Mombasa Road, Vehicles could use Waiyaki Way or go through Ngong Road and Mbagathi Way. From Lenana (Ngong Road) to Kikuyu, they will use Waiyaki Way through Naivasha Road or James Gichuru Road.
Those heading from Ngong Road towards Mombasa Road will use Langata Road through Karen Road.
Lastly, trailers and lorries from Waiyaki Way to Mombasa Road via the Southern Bypass will be able to use Waiyaki Way.
