An Administration Police (AP) in Kisumu, on Monday, is reported to have fired six rounds of ammunition that severely injured her colleague and a civilian.
The police officer was shot on both thighs while the woman, a resident was injured in the abdomen.
The injured individuals were rushed to the Kisumu Specialist Hospital where they were admitted in serious condition.
The two police officers attached to Kiboswa Administration Police Camp rushed to rescue two people who had been robbed of Ksh2,025,700 million.
Three robbers attacked the two businesswomen just as they were about to enter Dago PAG Church compound with the money that was to be paid to Inua Jamii beneficiaries.
The corporal and her colleague, who were nearby, heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene only to find the robbers had already made away with the money.
"The police officers were on duty at the Safaricom Mast when they heard gunshots fired by the robbers. They rushed there but found the robbers had vanished. As they interrogated people at the scene, the female officer's gun discharged a bullet, injuring her colleague and a villager," The Standard reports.
According to County Police Commander Benson Waweu, the robbers ordered the traders to surrender the cash, shot in the air and fled on a motorbike.
He also went ahead to ascertain that the said officer had been disarmed and was in custody and that an inquest had been launched into the shooting.
The suspects, however, were not arrested.
