State House Intruder's Special Plea to Uhuru

A man who tried intruding State House Brian Bera has made a special plea to President Uhuru Kenyatta during a court session on Wednesday.

Bera made the heartfelt request to the president, asking to be forgiven for intruding State House on June 10, 2019.

"Niko na shida... Kukaa kwa police cell ninaumia...Sitawai rudia makosa hayo tena na ninaomba Rais Kenyatta na wakenya wanisamehe.

(I have a problem and I have suffered staying in police cells, I will never repeat those mistakes again. I plead with President Kenyatta and Kenyans to forgive me)," he appealed.

The university student was shot and injured by police officers after he reportedly jumped over State House fence armed with a knife.

Charges against him were not read because a mental assessment by Mathare hospital revealed that he had a mental disorder called schizophrenia, Daily Nation reported.

The mental condition is characterized by disruptions in thinking, affecting language, perception, and sense of self.

On his part, Bera's father, David Bera, requested the court to allow him take his son to hospital.

"It might take a long time for him to recover. Detaining him in police custody will not help his condition," he noted.

The court heard that Bera once walked from 6pm to 2pm the following day.

“He left our home in Kitale and walked to a place known as Lortum in West Pokot, in January 2018,” Bera's father added.

In a press statement sent to newsrooms by the State House spokesperson Kanze Dena Mararo previously, she reminded Kenyans that the area was a protected and not open to the public.

"We take this opportunity to remind the public that State House is a designated protected area under the Protected Areas Act.

"For that reason, no person is allowed access to the premise without the permission of the prescribed authority," she noted.
