Peter Mbugua, the late businesswoman Wambui Otieno's husband, has rejected a vehicle that was left for him by his late wife.
In court papers filed at the Milimani Law Courts, Mbugua stated that Wambui was not in her right frame of mind when she awarded him a Toyota G-touring car instead of a posh Toyota Harrier.
“The deceased did not have the mental capacity to know what she was doing at the time of making the will due to illness,” Mbugua highlighted.
Mbugua disclosed that he did not understand how a Toyata Harrier registered in his name, was given to one of Wambui's daughters who had purchased it.
“It does not make sense if the will gives the car to the same child who bought it, that is a clear indication something was wrong," he noted in the court papers.
Wambui and Mbugua made headlines in July 2003, when they got married. At the time, Wambui was 67 years while Mbugua was aged 25.
The marriage between Wambui, who was a women's rights campaigner, and Mbugua, a stone mason, sparked a lot of criticism among Kenyans who thought that he was only interested in her money.
Mbugua, however, denied the allegations and cited that he loved her.
Wambui died of a heart disease in 2011 at the Nairobi Hospital.
In April 2019, Mbugua remarried in a mass wedding at the Christian Foundation Fellowship church.
