Residents of a town in Garissa County were left in fear after a KDF soldier accidentally shot himself in public.
According to a report by Standard Digital, the soldier was at an Mpesa shop with colleagues when the incident took place.
His colleagues told the publication that he had forgotten to lock the pin of his loaded gun and so it accidentally went off and shot him in the leg.
The incident reportedly caused mayhem in the town.
The officer is attached to Kotile Military base in Ijara Sub County.
Confirming the incident, police officers from the area urged gun holders to ensure that their guns were safely locked before stepping out into market centers.
The injured soldier was rushed to Masalani Sub-County Hospital for treatment.
He was reported to be at a stable condition shortly after he got checked in at the facility.
In May, another KDF soldier killed self after pumping his colleague with bullets at the Mtongwe Navy Barracks, Likoni.
The officer, Gilbert Kibet Mutai, snatched his colleague's G3 rifle and shot him thrice.
After he shot his colleague, Naftali Kimutai, he turned the gun towards himself. Kibet was rushed to the Kenya Navy sickbay where he succumbed to his injuries.
