The arrest of a murder suspect in Kangoni village, Samburu location, turned tragic after one Administration Police Officer was shot dead as the other escaped with an arrow lodged in his head.
The dreaded incident, which occurred on Monday 11 pm, started when DCI officers drawn from Taru Police Station and Administration Police Officers from Samburu, had gone to arrest a murder suspect.
The suspect, who was armed with a bow and arrow, turned violent and shot one of the officers.
This, is believed to have led to the series of events that led to the death of the other officer.
Police are under the impression that the officer might have been accidentally shot by his colleagues.
"The officers responded and shot the suspect dead and in the process the AP constable was accidentally shot on the head by his colleague and was announced dead on arrival at the Mariakani Hospital," a report seen by the Standard indicated.
The officer who survived was taken to the Mariakani hospital but was later transferred to the Jocham Hospital.
"We can confirm that it happened last night. The suspect turned violent and resisted arrest.
In the process, he shot one of our officers with an arrow and we are investigating the same," Kwali County Police Commander Tom Odero told the publication.
