CSs Blow Ksh3.8B on Lavish Parties in 9 Months

Cabinet Secretaries are once again on the spot after it emerged that their ministries splashed a fortune to the tune of Ksh3.8 billion on lavish parties.

Business Daily reports that most of the finances were spent by the Interior Ministry, Foreign Affairs and the Treasury.

The expenditure was an increase of Ksh1.55 Billion when compared to entertainment spending by the ministries for the same period last year.

The publication, further detailed that the three ministries together with the Presidency, which combines President Uhuru Kenyatta's office and that of his deputy, William Ruto, spent a sum of Ksh2.4 billion for the same period which accounted for 64 percent of the total expenditure.

The revelations come after the president, together with the Treasury, urged public officials to cut back on spending he termed as non-essential.

To enforce the move, Uhuru barred all government officials from travelling abroad unless they got clearance from the president. Local travel was also restricted.

Despite the directive, however, travel expenditure increased from Ksh3.4 billion to Ksh11.9 billion.

Narrowing down, the president alone spent a sum of Ksh758 million for his entertainment.
