Governor Appoints His Deputy to Cabinet in Reshuffle

Nakuru Governor, Lee Kinyanjui, on Monday, appointed his deputy into the county cabinet for the very first time.

Dr. Erick Korir now takes over as the County Executive Committee member for infrastructure from embattled Engineer Lucy Kariuki.

Ms Kariuki, who is facing an impeachment motion from the county assembly, has been moved to the vacant youth, gender, sports and social services docket.

In a press statement, Kinyanjui noted that his deputy would hold the infrastructure docket, though on an acting capacity, effective immediately.

Kariuki has been under fire from the county assembly as it moved a motion to impeach her for failing to deliver on the Boresha Barabara and street lighting projects.

The motion on the impeachment was adjourned on Friday after chaos broke out in the chambers and is set to be discussed on Tuesday, July 16, 2019.

Chaos erupted as two rival camps in the sharply divided 78-member assembly engaged in a shouting contest on the floor of the House, forcing Speaker Joel Maina Kairu to adjourn the motion.

The former Kenya Pipeline Engineer maintained her innocence on claims by MCAs that she interfered with the implementation of the contested programme.

The youth docket had been left vacant after the governor fired Halima Gababaon November 19, 2018, when she was found liable of gross misconduct.

Gababa had been on suspended August 23, 2018, for a period of 60 days pending investigations into the allegations.
