Ruto & Raila Agree on 1 Agenda During Rare Public Appearance

Deputy President William Ruto and the Africa Union High Representative for Infrastructure, Raila Odinga, on Monday, made a rare public appearance, during the launch of the national export strategy, aimed at bridging Kenya's trade deficit.

The DP was attending the function on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The two, alongside Cabinet Secretary, Peter Munya, not only sat side by side during the event, but also echoed each others sentiments on how to improve Kenya's trade position.

The Country's second in command stated that Kenya had a limited market for the products and an unlimited diversity of the products that could be exported.

“It is clear Kenya’s export numbers are lagging behind. We need to solve this problem,” Ruto cited.

On his part, the opposition leader highlighted that African countries traded little with each other, compared to countries in other continents.

He blamed the situation on the country's poor infrastructure.

Raila added that the African Union had spotted Intra-African highways and railways that could link the continent and boost trade.

The Opposition leader also talked about corruption, comparing it to a cancer that was ailing the country.

"These are billions we borrow or raise from taxes to create jobs and build hospitals but some people divert them into their pockets," he noted.
