Drama as Legislators Disrupt Hospital Services in Surprise Raid [VIDEO]

Operations at the Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital came to a standstill, on Wednesday afternoon, after a rowdy section of the County Assembly members stormed the facility.

This came after numerous complaints were lodged by the locals over the high cost of medication, lack of doctors and misuse of funds at the hospital.

The MCAs issued a demand to the county's boss, Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, to suspend the County Executive in Charge (CEC) of Health, Rachel Okumu, whom they claim, was incompetent.

The legislators alleged that the county's health boss had a conflict of interest with the hospital's management making it difficulty for operations to run smoothly.

"There are tussles between our Health CEC, Rachel Okumu and the hospital's management," Isukha North ward MCA, Farouk Machanje remarked.

He further divulged how the CEC allegedly overturned the hospital's boss decisions on recruitment and adoption of various policies in the hospital.

"She (CEC) comes in after the Chief Medical Officer has effected changes and throws away all the hospital management's decisions," Machanje angrily remarked.

The angry lot revealed that the facility's blood bank was perennially empty, making it difficult for the doctors to perform emergency surgeries on their patients.

"Ksh 11 million was allocated to the blood bank docket but so far, the hospital has only used Ksh 4 million. This shows that the people running that department do not have their priorities right!" Bunyala East ward MCA, Rogers Nato castigated.

His Ingotse Matiha ward counterpart, Lumbasi Andati, went on to state that the hospital's name should be changed as it did not live up to its big reputation.

"This hospital is termed as a teaching and referral hospital yet it is always increasing the medication costs, we should have the name "teaching and referral scrapped off its name," Andati furiously retorted.
