Ailing Governor Discharged After 26 Days in Hospital

Homa Bay County Governor, Cyprian Awiti, was on Monday discharged from the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

Awiti had been admitted in the hospital for approximately 26 days.

According to Homa Bay County Government Director of Communications, Juma Aluoch, Awiti’s health has improved and will be back in the county soon.

The county chief, in a statement to newsrooms, thanked God for restoring his health and urged his residents to remain peaceful and united as he prepared to resume duty soon.

Governor Awiti, also expressed gratitude to fellow political leaders who wished him quick recovery when he was in the hospital.

Awiti was initially rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, when he developed health complications while disbursing Ksh100 million bursary funds, at Orero Boys High School in Rangwe on June 27, 2019.

On June 28, 2019, he was referred to the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, where he has been receiving treatment.

A few weeks ago, the Homa Bay county boss was on long medical leave in Germany, where he was undergoing an eye operation.

Aluoch had earlier stated, “All affairs of the county will be run by the deputy governor as it has been since the governor has been unwell.”

His absence from the limelight had sparked concerns, over the running of the county affairs with local politicians criticizing its operations.
