Uhuru Sets Eyes on CS Rotich's Likely Replacement

President Uhuru Kenyatta is reportedly mulling over the replacement of Henry Rotich at the Ministry of Treasury.

According to The Star, the president, on Tuesday night, was allegedly considering Transport Principal Secretary, Esther Koimett, as Rotich's longterm replacement.

Quoting a source close to the president, the paper explained that Koimett was a viable candidate because of her vast experience in government spanning over 25 years.

For the Transport PS to take up the position, however, she must go through a parliamentary vetting.

Meanwhile, according to a Citizen TV report, State House is considering Trasport CS James Macharia and his East African Community and Regional Development counterpart, Adan Mohamed, to replace Rotich in an acting capacity.

Sources argued that Macharia was at an advantageous position because of his background in Finance.

"There is urgency in filling these positions so expect an announcement anytime now. The President is keen to find a competent person he can trust," reported The Star.

Interior CS, Fred Matiang'i, was also adversely mentioned as a prime candidate for the top job.

Seeking experts opinion, People Daily added a few names to the list including Chief Administrative Secretary Nelson Gaichuhie, who is the most senior civil servant at the Treasury.

The other likely candidates include State House Budget and Policy Strategy Secretary, Justus Nyamunga, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Former Devolution PS Irungu Nyakera and Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge.

Rotich was, on Monday, arrested in connection with the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal and was subsequently released on a Ksh15 million cash bail Tuesday evening.

He has to step aside in compliance with the anti-corruption laws.
