Raila's Claim of Paying Ken Okoth's School Fees Angers Kenyans

A revelation by ODM Party Leader, Raila Odinga, that he sponsored the education of the late Kibra MP, Ken Okoth, has elicited mixed reactions from social media users.

Speaking to journalists shortly after he landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday, the Africa Union (AU) envoy revealed that the deceased was like a son to him.

He went on to add that he supported Okoth's education when he was young.

"I sponsored Ken's education as a young man and he is like my son. He has shown a lot of dedication.

"First, he is a very intelligent person. He worked very hard, from a very poor background. So in the passing of Ken, we have lost a true Kenyan patriot," Raila stated.

However, his sentiments did not sit well with most netizens. Most of them accused him of taking undue credit.

Earlier reports had indicated that Okoth attended Starehe Boys Centre where every student is sponsored. He also secured a scholarship for his university education in the USA.

Here are the reactions:

Geoffrey Kiprono wrote, "Negative! Ken Okoth studied at Olympic Primary and later joined Starehe Boys Centre and School."

Faith Maina commented, "What's there in creating a non-existent relationship with the dead really?"

Saleh Salim posted, "Don't mention good deeds you make. Do it for the sake of God. He will pay you abundantly."

John Kuria posted, "Ken was interviewed and I never heard him mention your name if I'm not wrong."
