Waititu Released From Prison

On Thursday, Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu, was released after paying Ksh15 million cash bail.

Waititu had been sent to Industrial Area Prison after failing to cover the bail, where he spent two nights.

His wife had also been locked up at Langata Women's Prison but was freed on Wednesday.

The two, among others, were charged, on Monday, with corruption-related charges over an alleged Ksh588m tender scam.

Earlier on he had promised to pay bail for inmates he was sharing a cell with at Industrial Area Prison.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.keKarungo Wa Thang'wa, Kiambu CEC for Youth, Sports and Communications, disclosed that he had gone to visit the embattled governor in prison.

"He promised to pay bail for those that he shared a cell with once he is out. Some couldn't raise Ksh 5,000 or Ksh 10,000 thus spending months at the prison," Karungo Wa Thang'wa stated.

In the ruling that granted Waititu bail on Tuesday, Waititu was barred from visiting his offices.

On Thursday, Kiambu MCAs came out to praise judges they credit for barring Governor Ferdinand Waititu from accessing the county offices.

Led by Ruiru township, Biashara ward representative, Elijah Njoroge, the legislators requested Justice Mumbi Ngugi and Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi to go collect a goat from them as a reward for a job well done.

They thanked Mugambi and Ngugi for blocking the county head from accessing the offices thus paving way for his deputy to take charge.

Jubilee Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, also noted that the party was in full support of the court's ruling barring governors, who face corruption charges, from accessing office.
