The late Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso's cousin, Kirui, on Friday, narrated of an incident that almost caused her death at the age of seven.
Speaking during Laboso's memorial service on Friday in Bomet, Kirui narrated that during one instance when Joyce and a group of boys were from school, he threw a stone at a beehive that was on a tree.
An agitated swarm of bees would later land on seven-year-old Laboso, who passed out after the incident.
"The boys rushed her home. Fortunately, her father and mother had driven home to visit her. They found her unconscious and hurriedly rushed her to the hospital," Kirui divulged.
He further narrated that he did not talk about the incident until after 50 years when Joyce was elected and he revealed that he was the one, who almost killed her.
"I want to say sorry to the people of Bomet because I almost denied you a governor but today I'm here, I'm sorry. I want to thank God that Joyce survived all that," Kirui told the congregation.
Kirui added that Joyce was the greatest achiever in the family, yet the most humble.
The late governor died on July 29, 2019, at The Nairobi Hospital.
