Waititu Defies Court Order & Returns to Work

Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu, on Saturday, outmaneuvered a court order and continued working when he inspected projects.

According to a report by Daily Nation, the governor inspected the construction of Wangige Level Four Hospital and Kikuyu Market.

Reports indicated that Waititu further claimed that he would chair the county meeting on Wednesday but not inside the headquarters.

He made the move just two days after being released from Industrial Area remand.

On July 30, the governor was released on a Ksh15 million bond and ordered not to return to the office until he case has been heard and determined.

The court also ordered the governor, who is under probe over the loss of Ksh588 million in shoddy deals, to submit his travel documents to the relevant authorities.

Anti-Corruption Court Justice Lawrence Mugambi ruled that barring the county staff and their boss from accessing their places of work will ensure the integrity of the trial as well as public interest.

The Magistrate's court cited the need to avert any form of witness tampering, as the key reason behind their decision.

His lawyer, Tom Ojienda, had earlier argued that the governor was only barred from accessing his office and not dispensing his duties.

The lawyer's point of view was supported by his colleague Ahmednassir Abdullahi who argued that Waititu could virtually set up an office anywhere in this country.

Shortly after the ruling, Kiambu's Deputy Governor, James Nyoro, held a press briefing announcing that he had assumed the county's top office immediately.
