Ruto's Biggest Fears Over Jubilee Elections

Deputy President William Ruto has been a man under siege from factions in his own party, Jubilee.

Ruto who is the Deputy Party Leader in the party has some fears as it plans to have its elections in March of 2020.

The Jubilee Party elections are billed to be a do or die for the DP as he will be using the elections to put into office individuals who will take care of his interest

However, his nightmare, it is understood, is how the party would pick delegates from all the 47 counties his fears being the possibility of his competitors ganging up and frustrating his Jubilee takeover plans.

According to The Star, there were fears that anti-Ruto strongholds like Coast and Nyanza would team up with Central Kenya, a region where some leaders have vehemently opposed the second in command’s candidature to wrestle away the party.

Since the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga in March last year, two factions have emerged in Jubilee; team Tanga Tanga and team Kieleweke.

The newspaper further claimed that the anti-Ruto forces within and out of government were planning to use the Jubilee elections in influencing the delegates who will be participating in the voting process.

Another concern by Ruto is his falling out with the party’s Secretary General Raphael Tuju, after he came out on several occasions accusing him (Tuju) of working with his competitors ahead of 2022 presidential race.

The DP’s allies claim that Tuju was among a cabal of powerful elites within Jubilee who are sabotaging their man.

Political analyst Isaac Wabuge noted that the elections would present yet another platform for warring factions to outdo each other in a supremacy contest.
