Most Educated Presidential Aspirant Dies

Dr Reuben Savai Lihanda, who aspired to run for the country's top job in 2002, died on Sunday, August 4, 2019.

Nation reported that Savai died of a stroke that could have been linked to high blood pressure, which he had been suffering from.

His son, Abinayo Kivisi, told People Daily that his old man had been in and out of the hospital.

“For the past six years, he has been sickly. It is in fact the reason we moved him from Kibera in Nairobi in 2013,” he told journalists.

The family has appealed to the government to help with the burial expenses.

The deceased died as the most educated presidential aspirant in Kenya. His presidential dream was cut short after he failed to garner 1, 000 signatures required to enable his name to be on the ballot paper.

After the failed attempt, the Kenya Republican Reformation Party leader’s effort to secure a formal job also hit a dead end.

Dr Savai holds six degrees from the University of Athens in Greece and a diploma from Makerere University in Uganda.

Some of his academic credentials include Diploma in Theology, Law degree and two Bachelor of Education degrees, one in Arts and another in Science.

His family disclosed that Savai was barred from practising law in Kenya because he had not graduated from the Kenya School of Law.

After travelling to Greece in 1966, he returned to the country secretly in December 1988 through Tanzania because of his divergent political stand against the administration of retired President Daniel Moi.
