The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially announced the opening of its application portal for P1 and ECDE certificate holders wishing to upgrade their teaching qualifications.
The announcement on Wednesday revealed that qualified applicants will be able to pursue a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) via a streamlined placement process coordinated by KUCCPS.
Eligible candidates must possess a Certificate in Primary Teacher Education (P1) or Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) to qualify for the upgrade programme.
"The Ministry of Education has introduced this programme to provide teachers with P1 or ECDE certificates with a pathway to upgrade their qualifications to diploma level," read part of the announcement.
Applicants were also advised to log into the KUCCPS application system through the official website and choose a public Teacher Training College (TTC) of their preference to begin the process.
According to KUCCPS, the intake is scheduled for August, and the programme will aim to enhance the quality of teaching and professional development among educators across the country.
The application process will end in the next two weeks, the service announced.
The application portal is now live, and interested candidates are urged to apply promptly to secure their placement in the slots available at various TTCs.
The DPTE upgrade programme is part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Education to standardise teacher training and equip educators with competencies required in the Competency-Based Education (CBE) era.
The training will take place at the 33 public Primary Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) spread across Kenya. The minimum entry requirements are a P1 or ECDE certificate from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Additionally, the applicants will be required to have at least a minimum grade of C in their KCSE examinations.
Meanwhile, those with challenges in the applications process can visit Huduma centres for assistance with the process.
