Deceased Kibra Member of Parliament (MP), Kenneth Okoth, was on Saturday honoured in a work of art by Kibra artists.
When the group, famously referred to as 8town crew, learnt about the death of area MP, they thought of ways to honour him.
The founding member of the crew, Ish Artlives, settled on a mural painting of the late Okoth.
He then shared the idea with his colleagues Madd Lion, Irish, and Aluoch.
“Ken was very supportive of his people here in Kibra and especially the youth and so we thought the best way to honour him was to have his graffiti done here in Kibra,” disclosed Artlives.
The crew then scouted for a place and got a space at the DC stage in Kibra and, on Thursday, they painted the ways in preparation.
The 8town crew, together with another talented graffiti artist, Detail 7, did the installation of the mural on Saturday when the MP was cremated.
Detail 7, who spoke to Nairobi News stated that “I liked Okoth and when Artlives shared the idea, I immediately said yes. Ken was a great man and honouring him was an honour.”
After five hours, a mural boldly displayed the MP in a blue suit, smiling against a blue background, with the name Okoth in colourful yellow, purple and red graffiti.
The artwork was situated on a wall in the heart of Kibra, where Okoth spent the better part of his life.
The piece of art will be visible to thousands of people who pass by or board the matatu at the stage.
