A statement by renowned Citizen TV sports journalist, Mike Okinyi, elicited hundreds of reactions forcing him to defend himself.
In the wake of the national football team head coach, Sebastian Migne's move daring FKF to fire him, Okinyi sent out a tweet in response.
"I'm waiting to hear Migne has resigned.....if not iko dossier natoa. Moto sana, loosely translating to, I'm waiting to hear Migne has resigned, if not I have a dossier I am working on that is too hot to handle," he tweeted.
Despite the humorous tone of his message, netizens were quick to castigate him, with most pointing out that it was a journalist's responsibility to report, rather than dangle damaging information as some sort of blackmail.
"Journalists don't threaten to release dossiers... They release them...Unless you want to use your 'dossier' to blackmail someone for kickbacks," Robin Mbondo posted.
"Is this a blackmail for kickbacks? What happened to ethical journalism? Mike what if Migne doesn't resign?" Jackson Wambugu added.
In his defence, the celebrated journalist was quick to point out that he would only publish whatever information he had once he was done with his investigations.
"For those calling me fake journalist and blackmailer of Migné, I don't even have his number. There is something called right of reply and I'm waiting for FKF to respond to my questions. Then I release what I know and what I have. Ni hayo tu kwa sasa (that's all)," he tweeted.
Hundreds of netizens took to his page to air their displeasure, but the veteran journalist stood his ground, with several humorous responses.
