HELB Speaks Out After Hacking Reports

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has come out to deny reports that its database was illegally accessed or tampered with.

The board's CEO, Charles Ringera, in a statement, assured Kenyans of the security of their details.

A section of Kenyans had complained about receiving suspicious emails from a source claiming to be the board.

The emails informed the recipients that their HELB accounts had been successfully created even though the receivers had not applied for a HELB account.

“These messages did not originate from the Higher Education Loans Board database; the HELB database is safe; and the technology used at HELB is best in practice, complete with relevant security measures.

"HELB remains committed with regards to data integrity and confidentiality,” read part of the statement signed by the HELB CEO.

The board also reached out to the individuals affected to reassure them.

“We have since communicated directly to members of the public who reached out and reassured them accordingly," the statement further stated.

"Hi HELB, what is happening here? I have never applied for HELB and I have never signed up anywhere on your website using my email. This looks fishy. Kindly do something about it," Aurther Mandela, popularly known as Xtian Dela complained.

"Seems someone has just registered me to your portal and I don't need nor have I ever taken helb.. so I hope this is a spam email,"  protested Syombua A. Kibue.
