Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu, on Monday night, skipped a crucial night meeting which was convened by Energy Principal Secretary Joseph Njoroge.
The meeting was aimed at discussing development projects in the county with a special focus on those funded by the government.
According to The Standard, the event was attended by a majority of lawmakers from the area, some parastatal heads as well as church leaders.
Speaking to the media, Njoroge disclosed that the meet-up was necessary and discussed challenges that hampered the implementation of the projects in the area.
“We met will all county leaders together with technical officers from ministries implementing various projects to engage on progress, challenges and status of various projects in the county.
“It was a meeting like no other where we had politicians, but there was no politics. It was a meeting that purely focused on service delivery to the people of Kiambu,” he explained.
He also acknowledged that development was lagging in the Central region and promised that the meeting was not a one-time thing and that it would expand to the neighbouring Nyeri and Meru counties.
Waititu's deputy James Nyoro also attended the meeting.
Other notable personalities who were present include Thika MP Patrick Wainaina, Wanjiku Kibe (MP, Gatundu North), Moses Kuria (MP, Gatundu South), Gabriel Kago (MP, Githunguri), Jonah Mburu(MP, Lari), Peter Mwathi (MP, Limuru)and Ruiru's Simon Kinga’ara.
On July 30, the governor was released from remand on a Ksh15 million bond and ordered not to return to the office until a case, in which he is accused of embezzling Ksh588 million, has been heard and determined.
