On Tuesday, it was revealed that EACC had summoned 41 Siaya MCAs in connection to a trip made to Uganda on February 2019, after claims it was fictitious.
In a letter dated July 31, 2019, EACC Western Regional Manager, Ignatius Wekesa, summoned all the MCAs to their offices in Kisumu to record statements over graft allegations.
The politicians are expected to appear before the commission from Monday, August 12, to August 27, 2019.
Among the legislators summoned is Odongo Joanes Andiego, who served as the majority whip in the assembly up until May 2018, when he died.
The late MCA passed on at The Nairobi Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for liver and kidney problems.
Andiego's name was among the 41 MCAs from Siaya, who allegedly pocketed Ksh 200,000 and was expected to shed light on the expenditure, where Ksh8.2 million was allegedly embezzled in the controversial trip.
A report by K24 indicated that the deceased, together with Oriaro Leonard, Otare James and Francis Otieno were scheduled for interrogation on August 19.
The MCAs are required to present the original travel documents that they used for the trip.
In a separate matter, the same assembly is also on the spot over allegations of recruiting over 50 relatives and girlfriends of MCAs as interns and putting them on salary without any role.
In a petition calling for EACC to investigate the assembly, an umbrella body; Siaya County Accountability Network (SCAN) stated, "These interns are related to certain MCAs, others are girlfriends.
"We, therefore, want to know the budget for this internship programme, the policy guiding the internship programme in the Assembly and the level of proof of the training that the alleged interns are undergoing,” noted the petitioners in their letter quoted by The Standard.
