Deputy Governor Faces Eviction From Home Over Rent Arrears

Embattled Kisumu Deputy Governor, Mathew Owili, is starring at eviction from his home for failing to settle rent arrears amounting to Ksh1.4 million.

In a report ran by K24 TV, Owili received a letter from his landlord, United Millers, claiming that they will not renew his tenancy in September if he does not settle the rent.

The rent, which is supposed to be remitted by the county government, has not been settled for a period of 14 months now.

The news outlet further explained that the deputy county boss was shocked when he received the letter.

He had earlier tried to have the county's finance department, headed by Nerry Achar, to settle the arrears but his efforts were not forthcoming.

Frustrated, Owili took his complaints to Kisumu Governor, Anyang' Nyong'o, during a meeting where he was entertaining ambassadors at the Royal Swiss Hotel.

To his boss, the deputy governor lamented about the manner in which Achar had treated him seeking Nyong'o to intervene.

It was reported that Owili accosted the finance head in front of his boss.

The governor, on his part, explained that he was not aware of his tribulations and directed Achar to take care of the situation.

Achar is reportedly facing impeachment by Kisumu County MCAs on grounds of gross incompetence.
