Ruto Challenges Laboso's Replacement on 1st Day in Office [VIDEO]

Deputy President William Ruto, on Thursday, challenged the new Bomet Governor, Hillary Barchok, shortly after he was sworn-in, to replace the late Joyce Laboso.

Ruto started out by incorrectly referring to Barchok as the deputy governor, before apologising for the mistake.

He asked for forgiveness, adding that it would take some time before he got used to addressing him as the governor.

The DP challenged Barchok to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, to identify land where the national government would implement its Affordable Housing Agenda.

"We had agreed with Joyce that the county government would make available 10 or 20 acres of land so that the national government could look for investors because we want Bomet to have low-cost houses to enable low-income earners own houses," Ruto spoke.

He explained that the Affordable Housing Agenda would also help create address unemployment in the region.

He urged the youth to enrol in the five newly built technical and vocational training institutes so as to acquire the necessary skills required for the Affordable Housing Agenda.

"Young people listen to me very carefully, your work is not to make noise, not to applaud people. We have proposed that from this year, the TVET we have in Bomet, every young person who will enrol for a course will receive a Ksh 30,000 bursary.

"If you have completed Form Four, you have a chance to go to school to learn the necessary skills and benefit from the bursary as well as a Ksh 40, 000 loan every year," the DP announced.

"If we were to build 1,000 houses in Bomet, we would need 5,000 young people to do the job. We'll need plumbers, masons, carpenters, electricians, artisans, all those," he added.
