Raila Visits Former High School [PHOTOS]

Africa Union special envoy for Infrastructure Raila Odinga, on Friday, paid a visit to members of his former school Maranda High School.

The ODM party leader was attending a fundraising dinner held at Parklands Sports Club to construct a 4,000 capacity hall for their alma mater as part of Maranda's centenary celebrations.

He was accompanied by Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris, Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists' Union Secretary-General Ouma Oluga, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo as well as fellow alumni among others.

Maranda is one of the best performing schools in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

 

The school located in Siaya County and has had a good performance record since the inception of the 8-4-4 curriculum in Kenya. 

Raila joined the famous Maranda High school where he studied for two years before he allegedly dropped out in 1962 to join the Herder Institute, a part of the philological faculty at the University of Leipzig in East Germany.

Other alumni include: EALA MP Oburu Odinga , Siaya's County first Governor, Cornel Rasanga, Karachuonyo MP James Rege, Justice Nicholas Ombija, the late towering internal security assistant minister Orwa Ojode aka 'Sirkal,'  preacher PC Peter Raburu, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, as well as celebrated journalists David Ohito, Isaac Omulo Okoth, John Lawrence and Bethwel Oduo.

Nearly half the teachers at the school are also old boys, according to a list provided by Maranda High School Alumni Association.
