Why Raila Jnr Can't Sleep in His Father's Home During Visits

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's youngest son, Raila Junior, reportedly spends all his nights in hotel rooms every time he visits his father's home in Opoda Farm, Siaya County.

In a 2015 report by The Standard, it was established that even Raila's other son, the late Fidel Odinga, never spent a night in his palatial house located at the gate of his father's Bondo home.

This is in line with traditions of the Luo community in which an adult son is not allowed to spend a night at his father's house.

As a result, Raila Jnr, who frequents their rural home every festive season, would always book a room at a hotel located nearby.

For Fidel, however, reports had it that he had followed his community's traditions to the latter and was scheduled to spend a night in his house, but passed on before the right time came.

He was scheduled to use the house during the 2014 festive season.

The house was, at the time, dotted with Fidel's photos including one which he had taken with Jamaican reggae legend Don Carlos, portraits of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, US rapper Scarface and former Ethiopian leader, Haile Selassie.

For that reason, the late Fidel could not be buried inside his father's home and he had to be taken to the family's cemetery in Kang'o Ka Jaramogi.

Kang'o Ka Jaramogi is the home to his grandfather and Kenya's founding Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
